Environmental Initiatives

In addition to being a Chain-of-Custody Certified Printer, we have implemented many "green" practices in all areas of our manufacturing process including the use of vegetable oil-based inks and waste recycling programs.

Flower City Printing, Inc. was awarded CoC certifications through FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) and PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) on February 1, 2008. We can verify that papers used to manufacture printed products are made from certified, well-managed forests and not from illegally harvested areas. CoC certification is the process of tracking and recording the possession and transfer of wood and fiber from the forests of origin through the different stages of production to the end user. FCP® has systems in place to support the CoC process and to provide assurances to customers that products meet all FSC/SFI/PEFC criteria. We are audited yearly; the certifications will remain valid for five years.

  • Vegetable oil-based inks (since 1985)
  • Alcohol-free press solutions to reduce VOC's (since 1985)
  • ThINK Green ink recycling program to reuse excess special color ink
  • Ink Pumping Station - process inks are stored in recyclable bladders inside reusable 55 gallon drums and piped directly to each press eliminating waste from non-recyclable metal ink containers
  • Paper recycling - over 200 tons of paper waste is baled and recycled monthly
  • Solvent Recycling System - off-press process that recovers 95% of used press wash for reuse; eliminates solvent disposal into the environment
  • Energy efficient lighting in all areas of manufacturing
